Helping You Discover New Hope, Health, and Life in Grace

Making the decision to pursue therapy is a big step in the right direction, and I commend you for it. Still, choosing a provider can be a daunting task. My goal is to share some information with you about myself and my philosophy of treatment that will help you with this decision. After obtaining my Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Christian Social Ministries, I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Regent University in 2012. Through the years, I have worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, VA Medical Centers, Community Mental Health Centers, University Counseling Centers, and residential treatment facilities for children and adults. In addition to providing therapy for individuals, couples, and groups, I have also served as an adjunct faculty member and guest speaker. Lastly, I enjoy providing educational workshops and professional consultation for churches and other community organizations. As a psychologist, I am committed to providing holistic care, considering how each component of health (biological, psychological, social, and spiritual) is vital to your overall well-being. In my work, I utilize a variety of research-based treatments, depending upon your needs and preferences. I have extensive training and experience in helping clients cope with life stressors, grief, anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences (including military-related traumas), and spiritual concerns. In recent years, I’ve also developed an interest in women’s issues, reproductive health, infertility, postpartum concerns, respectful parenting, and posttraumatic growth. If you have questions about the practice, or are interested in pursuing treatment with me, please call the office to schedule an appointment. See contact link for more information. Your First Appointment: Please complete the required forms at least 48 hours prior to your appointment (See the contact page for information on how to access secure forms). These forms provide me with your consent/agreement for treatment, describe office policies, and give me a little background information about you. If I do not receive these forms at least 48 hours prior to your appointment, we will need to postpone the appointment and reschedule once the forms are complete. These 48 hours provide me with sufficient time to review your information prior to our initial session. Our first session will last approximately 60 minutes. At that time, we will discuss your need for treatment (what you would like to accomplish), address any questions or concerns you may have about treatment, and decide on a focus for our sessions. It typically takes 3-4 sessions to get to know one another and decide if my personality and general approach is a good fit for you. If either you or I believe that it is not a good fit, I can provide you with referrals to other mental health resources in our area. Follow-up sessions: Each follow-up session will be approximately 50 minutes in length. I respect your time and make every effort to start and end on time. I request that you do the same. Together, we will decide the frequency and duration of treatment. I encourage you to openly discuss with me how our sessions are going for you, and if you have any recommendations for how to make them work better for you. Regardless of how long we work together, I always encourage meeting for a final session, in order to provide closure and direction for the next step in your life. Individual Therapy: Individual therapy consists of meeting with me one-on-one for approximately 50 minutes. Specific approaches to individual therapy vary depending upon your needs and preferences. I will listen, offer encouragement, teach practical skills, and assist you in identifying and working through your emotions in a health way. Couples Therapy: Couples therapy provides the opportunity for you and your significant other/spouse to team up with me and learn how to address challenges that may be impacting your relationship. Topics vary widely, and often include communication, conflict resolution, and forgiveness. Premarital counseling is also available. Consultation: Psychological Consultation is available to fellow mental health providers, medical providers, educational institutions, and community churches. If you would like to learn more about the importance of mental health or tips for improving worker satisfaction and efficiency within your organization, contact me.
